Duplicate Detection
Before you search, the Merge panel automatically scans for potential duplicates and displays notices at the top of the panel. Each notice type helps you identify a different kind of duplicate.
Same-Person Deals
If the contact on your current deal has other deals in Pipedrive, they are listed with a yellow accent. These are the strongest duplicate signals since they share the same person record.
Each notice shows the deal title and includes:
- Open Deal – View the deal in a new tab.
- Open Person – View the shared contact in a new tab.
- Select for Merge – Immediately load this deal into the merge preview.
Same-person deals are the most common type of duplicate. If you see one listed here, it is very likely a candidate for merging.
Email and Phone Matches
The panel checks whether other contacts in Pipedrive share the same email address or phone number as the contact on your current deal. When matches are found, the notice lists each matching person along with their associated deals.
This catches duplicates where someone was entered as two separate contacts with the same email or phone but different names or other details.
Each match includes:
- Open Person – View the matching contact.
- Open Deal / Select for Merge – For each of their deals, view it or load it into the merge preview.
Name Matches
Contacts with the exact same name as the person on your current deal are surfaced as potential duplicates. This catches cases where the same person was entered twice with different email addresses or phone numbers.
Each match includes the same Open and Select actions as the other notice types.
Using the Notices
You do not need to act on every notice. They are informational – review them to decide whether a merge is appropriate. If a notice looks like a genuine duplicate, click Select for Merge to jump straight into the merge preview without searching.
Name matches can produce false positives when different people share the same name. Always review the contact details before merging.
